2026 Adult Summer Reading Challenge

Attend three out of ten programs to win three gift certificates from Ice Cream Dugout, Pat’s Pizza, and Sherman’s Bookstore! Registration begins Wednesday, June 17th.

Turn in completed sheets by Friday, August 28th!

Miniature Garden Workshop

Wednesday, June 17th, 6-7pm

Come create your own tiny garden complete with sweet-smelling flowers, soft moss, and a stone path with Diana Currier. Designing this self-contained “miniature garden” may encourage you to create more fun and beauty in your own gardens. All materials will be provided for this free program.

Author Talk: Ashley Emma

Wednesday, July 1st, 6-7pm

Ashley lived with the Amish in Unity, Maine when she was 20 years old to experience first-hand what Amish life is like. This hands-on research kickstarted her “Amish Romance” writing career. Ashley will share some humorous stories from her time living with the Amish and how to go about self-publishing a novel.

Join award winning crime and thriller author and blogger, Kate Flora for a discussion of what it’s like to write a long-running fiction series. She will talk about everything from where the ideas come from, how to keep it fresh over the course of multiple books, and how character development plays a pivotal role in each story.

Wednesday, July 15th, 6-7pm

Matt Cost will focus on his novel, EveryThing vs. Max Creed, a modern-day Robin Hood thriller. Jule Selbo will focus on her novel, 6 Days: Freya Cummings hasn’t left her private island for twenty years. When a teenager files a maternity suit against her and mysterious evidence seems damning, Dee Rommel is hired for her first solo gig.

Join award-winning author Margot Kelley for a discussion of her latest book, A Gardener at the End of the World. She wrote the first draft during 2020, when COVID shifted the axis of daily life; and in it, she explores how the act of growing food was a source of solace and the trigger for some of the worst pandemics in human history.

Writers on Writing

Wednesday, July 29th, 6-7pm

Matt Cost will moderate a panel of authors talking about their writing process with a focus on their written work. The writers will include Tim Queeney (author of Rope: How a Bundle of Twisted Fibers Became the Backbone of Civilization), Gabi Stiteler (author of crime fiction), and Travis Kennedy (author of The Whyte Python World Tour, debut novel). Audience interaction is encouraged as we dive deep to uncover the mystery of books and writing.

David will discuss his third novel, Negative Peace, which follows the journey of Joshua Sheehan, a Bucksport, Maine native who rises from Mayor of Bucksport to President of the United States. He has a plan—he wants to create a lasting world peace. It might only be Negative Peace, but it would be a start.

Wednesday, August 12th, 6-7pm

Ray Marcotte, the Reference & Technology Librarian, will give a hands-on demonstration of how to grow and enjoy sprouts based on Doug Evans’ The Sprout Book. Come taste and discover the power of the planet’s most nutritious food. Growing sprouts can be done on your kitchen counter without soil, sun, or difficulty!

DIY Hanging Planter

Wednesday, August 19th, 6-7pm

Join Reegan Burke for a fun adult craft night! We will create and decorate a hanging planter made from a recycled can and jute twine to plant a popular houseplant in it to take home. All materials will be provided for this free program.
